I always look for plants that strive and as with many garden lovers. I want my plants in their very best place. Gardeing in Tidewater gives us the challenge of a wide variation in moisture in the ground and the air. We started the season with great cool spring and then wham. Wilting plants and I think shocked plants from the heat. However, my yellow neck and green Zuchinni plants are produing lots of fruit. This is total proof that gardeing in the shade is not very fruitfull. I have so many beautiful trees but now I want fruit, vegetables and lots of flowers bloming. I have dared to plant most of my vegetables right on the front and even the very edge of my yard. I do not expect theft of my juicy tomatoes (yet to be seen but I have faith) or my luscious yellow and green squash.
When I sell a home I take note of the gardeing work. So much of a home's appearance depends on the beauty around the home. How the home owner sets the home off with their TLC outside can be a sure invitation to see the home as an important place for the owner. Buyers are interested in a home that looks important to the owner. One of my favorite gardens ,at a home a shoed to a prspective buyer, featured just a few shrubs but each shrub was a show piece. Each was well placed and not crowded (my style) and this placement made the home more understandable. A beautfiul Japenense Maple in a small couryard can fill the space with color and make the space seem large as the tree limbs reach out to tell their story of the sun's presense.
SO what makes a beautiful garden....to day I say a plan, and understandng of how much sun your plant needs and will get .
